Boys State Facts:

  • The American Legion, which sponsors Arkansas Boys State, was founded at a caucus of the American Expeditionary Force, March 15-17, 1919 in Paris France.
  • Arkansas Boys State has been educating the leaders of tomorrow for nearly seventy years.
  • Over 40,000 Arkansas youth have participated in the week long camp.
  • Former President Bill Clinton and Governor Mike Huckabee both attended Arkansas Boys State.
  • At American Legion Boys State, participants are exposed to the rights and privileges, the duties and the responsibilities of an American citizen. The training is both objective and practical with a focus on city, county and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus and recreational programs.
  • Notable leaders such as Apollo 11 Astronaut Neil Armstrong, Basketball Super Star Michael Jordan, News Anchor Tom Brokaw, and current Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have all attended various American Legion Boys State camps around the country.
